Project Director

Ruth Tincoff, Ph.D.

Thank you for your interest in the Parent and Baby Project! I am a professor in the Psychology department at The College of Idaho. My expertise is in Cognitive Developmental Psychology, the study of how we think, learn, communicate, and change through growth and experience. In short, I study the basic "machine" of the human mind and how it helps us discover the world around us.

I started at The College of Idaho in 2017. I teach courses on General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, and Cognitive Psychology. I am a parent to one child in elementary school and one in high school; learning and growing with them and our community inspires my research and teaching. I look forward to learning from you and your baby!

My main research focus is on how babies listen to and understand spoken words before they can talk. This research can help everyone better enjoy the day-to-day intense work of caring for babies. It also helps nurses, doctors, and other health professionals who need to track healthy infant development. You and your baby can participate in a research study and add to this knowledge - your experience caring for your baby and growing together is important!
